It is an excellent specimen for rock tumbling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHow is snowflake obsidian made\/formed?  Snowflake obsidian is formed from magma.  It is an igneous rock.  You will note that there appears to be a film outside the rock. When it is cut or broken, you will see the shiny interior.   It can also be polished and or tumbled. This type of Obsidian gets its name, snowflake obsidian, from the multiple small white snowflake-looking inclusions all over it. These inclusions are called Cristobalite.
